Windows Phone users can still upload to Instagram with likes of Hipstamatic Oggl and Instagraph?for now

wp_ss_20130730_0002

This morning I read reports on Reddit that WP users were having problems with their Instagram uploads. As soon as they uploaded anything, the folks at Instagram deleted it.

Third party apps sometimes means that updates to the service might cause some problems requiring the developer of that third party app to make additional workaround to continue using said service. But developer of Instance, Daniel Gary has tried all he can so far to fix it but it looks like the folks of Instagram want to be the biggest d-bags on the block.

Could it be a mistake? I remember a couple of weeks before some WP users reported a problem with instagram but it wasn?t that widespread.

As you can see, the photo above doesn?t exist at all. ?http://instagram.com/jaymontanoz

Facebook owns Instagram. MS owns 1.6% of Facebook. When Facebook bought instagram we thought, oh yay, we can get Instagram on WP. That wasn?t the case. For months Nokia tried to raise awareness with #2instawithlove. That campaign was forgotten with the arrival of itsdagram?(now Instance).

TheVerge has picked up on the story saying Instagram is blocking/deleting photos from Third Party Instagram apps. Boy, many were fuming.

Fortunately, it?s not the end. You can still destroy your lovely Lumia photos with potato square tile filters :p. Haha. As I said before, I don?t use it for filters. I use it to share pics/moments.

wp_ss_20130730_0003

You can still post photos to your Windows Phone using Hipstamatic Oggl.

I don?t quite know how to use existing pictures in the gallery versus just snapping one and uploading it from Hipstamatic.

This photo is still up there for the moment.

Since Hipstamatic was mentioned at the Nokia Lumia 1020 launch by Nokia, we don?t expect this to be blocked by Instagram for WP unless they block Hipstamatic posting from all platforms.

Screen Shot 2013-07-30 at 13.04.35

Some users are reporting some other third party Instagram uploading apps are still working .

This includes Instagraph. Unlike Instance and Hipstamatic, Instagraph doesn?t publish straight away. It kinda publishes your photo through instagram somehow by queuing it along some way that Instagram accepts uploads.

Notice that Instagraph uses the official filters, which later appear on Instagram.
wp_ss_20130730_0008

wp_ss_20130730_0009

Here?s the photo on Instagram.

Here?s the actual photo, for now, on Instagram, uploaded from my 920.?Instagraph like Instance is a paid app (?1.29) although Instance does have a free version.

For a better experience with Instagraph, you should download Metrogram. They work as a pair.

I believe WPGram is also useful (is that mainly for viewing though?)

We often speak about the various different Instagram apps for WP but don?t really go into specifics. Once we find one and we?re normally OK with that, we tend to not look for alternatives. Possibly the same way people choose their phones. Unless there?s a major reason to switch, they stick. For me, because I rarely use filters (and if I do need editing, it would be from Creative Studio/Fantasia Painter) I?ve been fine using Instance to do basic uploads. If I can?t be bothered with Instagram I might just tweet that photo (and WP?s twitter app is really nice for that, it?s just that the audience is different).

Speaking to Smashpop/Jason Goh on the Finland trip, the main reason he seems to use the official client is for the upload too. Otherwise, he uses other apps to add his ?filters?.

What other Instagram related apps for WP should we be aware of, folks?

Assault charges bring 57 months

A Jemez Pueblo man was sentenced Tuesday to 57 months in federal prison for two separate assaults.

Jerome Dominic Concha, 20, also faces three years of supervised release for the assaults, one that occurred on Jan. 7, 2011, against a Taos Pueblo man, and another on July 27, 2012, against a Jemez Pueblo man.

Concha also was ordered to pay $13,359 to the Indian Health Services in Taos and Jemez pueblos to cover the costs of medical care for his victims.

The Taos Pueblo man had to undergo surgery to repair extensive damage to the bone structure of the orbit of the eye and nasal bone fractures, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney?s Office.

The Jemez Pueblo man, hit in the face and head with a hatchet, suffered serious injuries, including a skull fracture, a fracture to the jaw and upper palate, and the loss of multiple teeth.

Arrested were Juan Almeida-Arredondo, 29, and Manuel Dominguez-Mendoza, 26, both of Santa Fe.

The task force?s news release does not say when the arrests took place, but the website for the Santa Fe County jail shows Almeida-Arredondo was booked on July 17.

Almeida-Arredondo faces state drug charges and both men face federal immigration charges.

Just under 8 ounces of cocaine, along with two handguns and over $4,700 in cash were seized during the operation, according to the news release.

RCS MediaGroup reaffirms guidance of significant 2013 loss

MILAN (Reuters) - Italian publisher RCS MediaGroup reaffirmed on Wednesday its guidance of a 10 percent sales drop and a significant net loss in 2013 amid continued economic uncertainty and a weak advertising market.

In a statement, RCS MediaGroup, publisher of influential Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera and of Spain's El Mundo, said its net loss narrowed to 125.4 million euros ($166.2 million) in the first half from 427 million euros a year ago, while sales declined 14.3 percent on lower advertising and circulation sales.

Revenues from its digital operations rose 4.3 percent to 73.1 million euros, 11.3 percent of the total turnover.

RCS, which completed a vital cash call earlier in July that led to a rejig in its shareholder base, said net debt rose to 956.7 million euros at the end of June.

Taking into account the effects of the cash call, pro forma net debt was about 560 million euros.

freddienumber13 writes "In another patent surprise, a patent application by Apple for pinch-to-zoom has been rejected by the USPTO on the grounds that its claims were either anticipated by previous patents or simply unpatentable. Washington Redskins: Players on the Roster Bubble Who Will Make the Final 53

The Washington Redskins are in a rather favorable situation with most positions on their roster, and that is that they are not short on talent.?

Between their competitive running back stable and mix of veteran and upstart wide receivers, this is a good problem to have.?

The backup running back position is perhaps their most interesting offensive camp battle so far.?

They have a trio of guys with experience who have proven they can be valuable runners, and they recently picked up two more running backs in the draft who will be in the mix for a roster spot.?

Offensive line is also a position in which they are pretty set at, besides right tackle. The most competition on the O-line is definitely with the interior linemen; there are several young guys who can play and play well if given the chance.?

With preseason upon us and roster cuts looming, there is much speculation surrounding which players on Washington?s roster bubble will end up making the team and which will end up looking for work by the time summer ends.?

There will be many broken-hearted players when the Redskins make their final cuts, but there will also be a couple of surprises regarding some of these guys on the bubble.

?

Evan Royster, RB

While Alfred Morris has the starting running back spot sewn up, there is a ton of competition behind him.?

It is unlikely that Washington will keep more than three running backs, so the guys who will earn the backup and third-string slots will have to prove that they can bring a spark to the Redskins? running game.?

Evan Royster has shown flashes of being a dependable back in the past, but has done especially well with catching the ball out of the backfield and grinding out yards as the game goes on.?

He may not put up a great yards-per-carry average, but he is a solid change-of-pace, outlet pass-type of guy whom Kyle Shanahan can plug into most packages in relief of Morris.?

He surely doesn?t make the type of impact that Morris does, but he can get the job done in a minimized role.

?

Maurice Hurt, OL

Maurice Hurt is one of those guys who had a pretty good future lined up for him in Washington, that is until the right tackle position got extremely crowded.?

While the group isn?t exactly littered with talent, there is competition.?

It is evident that incumbent starter Tyler Polumbus is not the long-term answer, and Tony Pashos and?Jeremy Trueblood are stop-gap solutions for now. The only other player with any sort of promise is Xavier Nixon, a rookie from Florida who has great athleticism and a tremendous skill set.?

While neither Hurt nor Nixon is really ready to step in and become ?the guy,? Washington still needs a dependable starter at right tackle.?

When it comes down to who is better between these two guys, you have to go with the more experienced player. Nixon will probably end up being the better overall player, but Hurt is familiar with the system and could be a pretty good player while Nixon still adjusts to life in the NFL.

?

Devery Henderson, WR

This may come as a surprise to some of you, but Devery Henderson will have a great chance at making this roster.?

While he certainly isn?t the best receiver on Washington?s roster, he has a solid set of hands and can become a reliable fourth or fifth option for Robert Griffin III.?

With Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan firmly atop the depth chart at wide receiver, and Santana Moss holding it down as the third receiver, Henderson could find his way onto the roster by proving he can be more consistent than Leonard Hankerson and Aldrick Robinson.?

Henderson isn?t particularly tall or anything, but he possesses good speed for a veteran and has the ability to be a contributing factor on offense for Washington.?

At least 37 dead after coach plunges into ravine in Southern Italy

? Reuters

(Link to video: Dozens dead in Italian bus crash)

Coach carrying a group of tourists near town of Avellino careered off a viaduct and plunged down a steep slope.

At least 37 people died and many others were injured when a coach carrying a group of tourists through southern Italy crashed into several vehicles, careered off a viaduct and then plunged down a steep slope.

As emergency workers contended with the dark and highly precarious terrain to try to pull bodies from the wreckage, firefighters said most of the bodies had been found inside the coach and a few more beneath the vehicle.

Eleven people - including three children - were injured and taken to hospitals in the surrounding area, the Ansa news agency reported. Two were reported to be in critical condition. State radio quoted Avellino police as saying the bus driver was among the dead.

"The situation is critical. Our men are working to save as many lives as possible," fire chief Pellegrino Iandolo told Sky TG24 television late on Sunday night.

? Reuters
The wrecked bus lies where it fell after plunging off the road near Avellino.

Rescuers wielding electric saws cut through the twisted metal to get to the interior of the bus, stopping occasionally to listen for any cries for help, even as the bodies were put into coffins to be taken to a morgue.

Reports said as many as 49 people had been aboard the bus when it ripped through a guardrail after slamming into several cars, then plunged some 30 metres (100ft) off the highway and into a ravine near a wooded area. The bus tore away whole sections of concrete barriers as well as the guardrail. The concrete lay in large chunks in a clearing where the bus landed.

Television images showed a number of smashed vehicles on the flyover, bodies lying beside the road and the twisted wreckage of the coach lying dozens of metres below the roadside in the undergrowth.

? Reuters
Coffins are lined up near the crash site.

Occupants of cars which were hit by the bus stood on the highway near their vehicles. One car's rear was completely crumpled, while another was smashed on its side. It was not immediately known if anyone in those cars had been injured.

The crash occured about 8.30pm local time between the towns of Baiano Monteforte Irpino, about 40 miles inland from Naples.

Flashing signs had warned of slowed traffic ahead along a stretch of the A16, highway police told state radio early on Monday. They said the bus driver, for reasons not yet determined, appeared to have lost control of his vehicle.

Reports said it hit several cars and then plunged off the viaduct. There was no obvious cause of the crash, but Ansa reported unnamed sources saying police believed there may have been a problem with the coach's braking mechanism.

? The Guardian

A reporter for Naples daily Il Mattino, Giuseppe Crimaldi, told Sky TG24 TV from the scene that some witnesses told him the bus had been going at a "normal" speed on the downhill stretch of the highway when it suddenly veered and started hitting cars. He said some witnesses thought they heard a noise as if the bus had blown a tyre.

Early reports said the passengers had spent the day in Puglia, an area near the Adriatic on the east coast famed for religious shrines. But on Monday, a state radio reporter at the scene said authorities told him the bus had been bringing the passengers home after an outing to a thermal spa area near Benevento, not far from Avellino.

Others at the scene said the passengers might have visited a town near Benevento that was the early home of Padre Pio, a late mystic monk highly popular among Catholics in Italy.

Passengers came from small towns near Naples, and relatives streamed to the crash site. Initial estimates said there were up to 49 people on board at the time of the accident.

A local prosecutor arrived at the crash scene to begin an investigation into the cause of the crash.

Bus carrying teens from church camp crashes in Indiana killing three

Indianapolis Fire Department said crews had to free five people who were trapped inside after the crash. Four good Samaritans helped before first responders could arrive, including one man who helped pull the driver out, the agency said.

The bus was carrying 40 passengers who are members of Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Indianapolis and were returning from a summer camp. The Fire Department said those injured included children and adults.

Indianapolis Fire Department spokesman Capt. Rita Burris said survivors were taken to area hospitals. Some of the victims were taken by helicopter.

Karen Woodard, a member of the Colonial Hills Baptist Church, cried as she stared at the wrecked bus surrounded by pillows, water bottles and clothing. She said the bus was returning from a youth camp in Michigan and that some of the teens had their parents with them.

"It's so terrible. I can't believe it," she said.

Roads near the scene were closed. A hazardous materials crew was cleaning up diesel fuel that spilt in the crash.

Outside the church about a mile away, families gathered to hug and talk quietly as parents paced back and forth talking on cellphones. A yellow school bus with the church school's name was parked outside with piles of sleeping bags and suitcases nearby.

The new Nexus 7: Wireless charging feature

Nexus 7 on the Nexus Orb

The new 2013 Nexus 7 uses the same wireless charging standard as the Nexus 4 -- and the same chargers.

Google PlayIf you were one of the lucky ones who was already able to score a new 2013 Nexus 7, you might not know about a great feature -- Qi wireless charging. It doesn't charge your new tablet fast, and it still requires a cord be plugged into the wall, but it is a great feature for the nightstand or your desk. While the tablet is sitting there not being used to play games, surf the web, or browse your favorite social media network -- all things it does very, very well -- it can be collecting a few charged electrons to keep the battery bumped up. And it makes a great nightstand clock with the Dashclock extension and Daydream feature activated.

We've got a handful of Qi chargers laying around, so I've been fiddling with them all morning. I want to see which ones work the best out of the bunch, and fans of the Nexus brand will be pleased with the result -- the Nexus Charging orb is a perfect match for your new Nexus 7.

They all work. Nokia's charger seems to work fine on my tablet, but offers no compelling reason to choose it over any others. The big Energizer Qi charging mat works fine, too, but it's ugly as sin and life is too short for ugly accessories. The LG puck works really well, and the fact that the charging coil is mounted directly in the center of the back cover of the Nexus 7 makes it easy to place and it stays put. But that blinking light will drive you bonkers at night.

Enter the Nexus charging orb. You new tablet grips the funky rubber surface of the orb just fine and won't slip, and the angle it keeps your Nexus 7 resting at makes that big, beautiful screen easily viewable while it's charging. Combined with some of the great Daydreams available in Google Play, it's the perfect solution. And it's powered by holo. Ok, not really, but it does say NEXUS on the face of it.

If you've got a Qi charger laying around, by al means use that one with your Nexus 7. If you have to buy one, because come on, you have to, grab the Nexus Orb from Google Play. You can use the link above. There are a couple pics after the break, and plenty of room for all your comments.

Microsoft turns to solar-power and white space for South Africa's cheapest broadband

Microsoft South Africa is to fund a new trial for delivering internet connectivity using TV white spaces in rural areas of the Limpopo province.

TV white spaces uses unused parts of the analogue TV spectrum used to broadcast a low-power internet signal over ranges of up to 5.4km.

The year-long pilot project will help to establish which parts of the analogue spectrum will be suitable for use, and will initially connect five schools in Limpopo to a single antenna. It's hoped that the schools will be able to get download speeds of up to 4Mbps.

Microsoft is also supplying schools with computers and teacher training on using IT in education.

Limpopo's education department hit the headlines last year when it was discovered that primary schools were left without textbooks following non-delivery of a government contract and thousands of copies of key texts were found in illegal dumps. It's one of the poorest regions of the country and few who live there have access to the internet.

One of the biggest factors affecting the deployment of cell masts in rural areas is lack of a nearby connection to the power grid both for network operators and potential users. Microsoft South Africa managing director Mteto Nyati says the pilot will overcome that by using solar panels to power the mast, and he believes that they will be able to generate enough surplus energy to power routers and tablets at the schools involved too.

Nyati says that the trial isn't purely altruistic, but is about developing the company's new 'devices and cloud' strategy for African customers.

"Devices on their own mean very little, it's about the services that people consume on those devices," Nyati says, "so we have decided to make it our job, our mission, to drive low cost connectivity and drive down the price of connectivity which has been a problem in Africa and especially in South Africa."

The price is certainly the most ambitious part of the project. While established ISPs offer uncapped 1Mbps ADSL from around R339 ($34.89) per month, Nyati believes that white space broadband should be sustainable for between R20-50 ($2-5.15) for up to 4Mbps uncapped.

Microsoft will partner with Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the University of Limpopo and local networking firm Multisource. The total budget for the trial hasn't been revealed, but Microsoft has said it will be completely funded from its 4Afrika CSR fund.

The company has run similar white space? trials in Kenya and Tanzania, and rival Google is also investigating white space use in the Western Cape.

Once the Limpopo trial is completed, Nyati says that he hopes to partner with an established ISP to deploy white space broadband to other underserved areas, including Soweto in Gauteng. But there's no danger of Microsoft attempting to replicate projects like Google Fibre or Google Loon by going it alone on a larger scale.

"We see ourselves as an enabler, not a provider," says Nyati. "We are not in the telecoms space. I don't think you'll see us becoming a network provider."

Just a Reminder That FedEx Doesn't Give a Crap About Your Packages

It can be FedEx. It can be UPS. It can be any shipping service, really. They all promise to get your packages to where you want them to go but there's no guarantee they'll treat your packages with any sort of tender, love or care. Most likely, they'll be thrown around, banged around and destroyed in the process. Just look at this FedEx employee have fun tossing FedEx packages into her truck. I can see the appeal of chucking boxes but doesn't this just create chaos and add more work later?

South Africa should reject homophobia, says Tutu

"I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven. No, I'd say sorry. I mean, I'd much rather go to that other place," he told reporters in Cape Town.

"We have to build a society that is accepting and it is not a free society until every single person knows they are acknowledged and accepted for who they are."

He was speaking at the launch of the United Nations ?Free & Equal? global campaign for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) equality in Cape Town.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about homophobic violence and discrimination. Tutu said many people felt they could not be comfortable in their skin because of potential ridicule.

It could simply not be a choice to follow that lifestyle knowing the great prejudice and potential violence that lay in wait, he said. He was aware that many religious leaders promoted the idea that it was a sin to be anything but heterosexual.

"There is deep anguish for many of us that they can imagine that God would create someone and put them there and say 'I hate you. I hate you for who I made you to be'."

Tutu said South Africa should reject discrimination against sexual orientation, as it had done with racism.

"Can you imagine me having said it's unjust to penalise something they cannot do anything about, their race or gender, and then to keep quiet when people are hounded, people are killed, because of their sexual orientation?" he asked.

"I think it's as utterly unjust as racism ever was."

Tutu said non-heterosexuals were often described as being a "particular breed".

"They are not a peculiar breed. That is precisely what we are saying, that they are human beings. I don't know why we are so surprised. They have gifts, they can become judges. They can become all sorts of wonderful things."

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said the campaign's success would be measured by how many countries chose to decriminalise LGBT preferences and the measures they put in place to offer protection to individuals.

"Government holds the primary responsibility for protecting people. It's government who can take action... but nothing happens unless there is a push from civil society," she said.

Teck profit falls on lower prices, delays new mines

By Julie Gordon and Allison Martell

TORONTO (Reuters) - Teck Resources Ltd on Thursday reported a sharp drop in second-quarter earnings on lower copper and coal prices, and cut its capital spending plan through 2014, delaying new mining projects.

The company, Canada's largest diversified miner, is slowing the restarting of its Quintette coal mine in British Columbia until the steelmaking coal market recovers, and it delayed development of its Quebrada Blanca Phase 2 copper expansion in Chile.

"I think it is the right move," said Garrett Nelson, mining analyst at BB&T Capital Markets, on the Quebrada Blanca delay. "That was going to be a significant drain on free cash flow over the next few years."

Shares rose 4 percent to C$24.64 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

A feasibility study last year pegged the project's capital cost at $5.6 billion, with Teck's share at $4.8 billion. It had planned to complete a study on its social and environmental impact by the end of the second quarter, but now does not expect to finish before the fourth quarter of 2014.

Teck also warned that economic uncertainty in the United States and Europe, along with less robust growth in emerging markets, would probably continue to affect prices and demand for its products.

"While we believe that the longer term fundamentals for steelmaking coal, copper and zinc are favorable, the recent weakness in these markets may well persist for some time," the company said in a statement.

Teck said it does not plan to approve any new mine development projects this year.

CHILEAN WOES

Teck said it was slowing the Quebrada Blanca expansion due to market conditions, but also because of permitting concerns as it moves to the second stage of the project.

"As previously announced, we have identified issues linked to permitting for existing facilities which need to be reviewed," it said.

It plans separate regulatory filings on the matter before submitting its impact assessment for Phase 2.

The mine's original environmental approvals ran from 1993 to 2007, Teck said on last quarter's conference call, and it has been operating since then on extensions. In the meantime Chile's regulatory regime has changed.

Teck would not be the first miner to run into difficulties in Chile. Goldcorp Inc and Barrick Gold Corp have both faced regulatory headaches there in recent years.

PRICES SLIDE

Teck's coal sales fell 6 percent to 6.3 million tonnes in the quarter, while expense-cutting reduced the cost of sales by 15 percent to $50 a tonne. Coal revenue fell 26 percent, mainly on a 23 percent drop in the realized price to $156 a tonne.

The Vancouver-based company said it had commitments in place to sell 6.4 million tonnes of coal in the third quarter at an average price of $143 per tonne.

Copper sales rose, but unit revenue fell 5 percent as the realized copper price declined 9 percent to $3.24 a pound. Copper cash costs fell to $2.97 a pound from $2.14 a year earlier.

BB&T Capital's Nelson said the sales figures were slightly better than he expected, and thus operating results were relatively strong.

Teck said it expected about C$1.85 billion ($1.80 billion) in capital spending in 2013, down from a previous estimate of C$2 billion, and about C$500 million for 2014. It may make further cuts.

The company posted a second-quarter net profit of C$143 million ($139 million), or 25 Canadian cents a share, compared with C$354 million, or 60 Canadian cents a share, a year earlier.

Excluding one-time items, earnings were 34 Canadian cents a share. On that basis, analysts expected 31 Canadian cents, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. Revenue from operations fell 15 percent to C$2.15 billion.

Miriam compares PNoy's SONA to a lengthy college paper

(Updated 3:56 p.m.) For Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, President Benigno Aquino III's fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) was like the work of a college student who has nothing much to say.

?

In a television interview Wednesday, Santiago lamented how Aquino's speech failed to focus on issues affecting ordinary Filipinos, such as poverty and unemployment.

?

"Kulang ang trabaho. Unemployment rate is very high. Yan ang pinaka importanteng problema na nakaharap ngayon sa taong bayan, hindi problema sa foreign affairs kundi problema saan kukuha ng kakainin nila," Santiago said in an interview over GMA News TV's News To Go.

In the same interview, Santiago said Aquino's speechwriters should have used bullet points to sum up the administration's accomplishments in the past year.

?

"Nagkamali ang kanyang media adviser na ipaliwanag lahat ng detalye tungkol sa isang taon lang na buhay ng bansa. Walang tao who can keep up with this for 2 hours. Mali talaga ang media operations nila sa Malaca?ang," she said.

?

Due to this, Santiago said the President's SONA seemed like it was written by a college student who might get scolded by his professor.

?

"Kamukha 'yan sa college na lahat na lang pati footnotes nilagay mo sa paper mo. Lagay mo sa likuran, sa end note. Wag mo lalagay sa main page kundi magagalit propesor mo at maghihinala na wala kang masabi," she said.

?

Santiago failed to attend the President's SONA last Monday due to chronic fatigue.

'Speechless'

Later in the afternoon, presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda wondered what Santiago was complaining about.

?

"What more can she not see in the State of the Nation Address? I am speechless," he said during a press briefing.

?

Lacierda explained that Aquino's SONA topics addressed in detail how they plan to solve poverty and unemployment in the country.

?

"The President has enumerated the things that we are going to do. We are going to increase manufacturing. We are going to increase tourism. We are going to increase agriculture. We are going to expand the economy so that we?ll have fiscal space to provide for our less privileged," he said.

?

"It was 55 pages. Fifty-five pages long and, if you can?t find any word there on generating employment; if you can?t find any statement there addressing poverty, then you must be reading another SONA or another speech?definitely not from the President," Lacierda stressed.

?

?

Silent on 'pork'

Aquino's fourth SONA

?focused on his administration's accomplishments in the past year. He also used his speech to praise some of his Cabinet members, and to criticize erring agencies.

?

But Santiago noted that Aquino failed to mention anything about the recent controversy on the use of the priority development assistance fund (PDAF), commonly known as the "pork barrel."

?

"Dapat sana pinaliwanag ang napaka iskandaloso na pork barrel... There should have been a specific discussion on corruption and telescope it to the anomalies connected to pork barrel," she said.

?

Last week, the Philippine Daily Inquirer ran a series of reports detailing the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)'s ongoing probe on a supposed racket, allegedly masterminded by businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles, to defraud lawmakers and various government agencies. Napoles has denied involvement in the anomaly.

?

Santiago said the President should have tackled this issue since his administration has an anti-corruption agenda.

?

"Bakit wala tayong imik doon? Ang tema ng administrasyon na ito ay daang matuwid, laban sa korupsyon," she said.

?

Santiago had earlier called on her colleagues who were linked to the controversy to file a leave of absence pending investigation on the supposed anomaly.

?

Majority solons satisfied

?

Meanwhile, members of the House of Representatives aligned with the majority bloc were satisfied with Aquino's fourth SONA.

?

Pangasinan Rep. Rosemarie Arenas described the President's speech as "fantastic," since it managed to "capture all aspects of what the President wanted to tell the people."

?

"The President was forceful and at the same time he delivered his SONA gently. ?It?s really his style," Arenas said in a separate statement.

?

For ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Samuel Pagdilao, the President's SONA last Monday was already "comprehensive."

?

"The President touched on a lot of things that were actually put into concrete terms. Example is our economic growth as assessed by foreign entities, he presented concrete examples in many areas, which are indicators of our rising economy like more housing projects, additional CCT recipients, more jobs, more focus on education," Pagdilao said. ? with Andreo Calonzo and Kimberly Jane Tan/RSJ, GMA News

'International beam team' solves Martian meteorite-age puzzle

[unable to retrieve full-text content]By directing energy beams at tiny crystals found in a Martian meteorite, geologists have proven that the most common group of meteorites from Mars is almost four billion years younger than many scientists had believed -- resolving a long-standing puzzle in Martian science and painting a much clearer picture of the Red Planet's evolution that can now be compared to that of habitable Earth.
