Bachmann's presidential race debt almost gone

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann is $30,000 away from extinguishing the debt from her ill-fated presidential campaign.

A campaign filing Monday shows she has almost satisfied what had at one point been a debt north of $1 million. Much of it was paid back through money transfers from the Republican's congressional campaign fund. In the most recent three months, she shifted $140,000 over to the presidential fund.

Bachmann was in the 2012 White House race for about six months, but she bowed out after a dismal finish in Iowa's leadoff caucuses. She fell back to a campaign for a fourth-term in a Minnesota congressional seat and won. This spring, Bachmann announced she wouldn't seek another term.

Bachmann's presidential finances have been under scrutiny amid allegations of impropriety, which she has denied.
